Abstract:
In this article, I discuss the narratives being brought forth today
about the digital revolution, showing how the discourses of authors who,
in scientific nonfiction, address this topic are constructed. I focus in particular
on the vision of the future evident in their works, since, within their
argumentations, the technologies we are developing, but also their practices
of use, are often narrated as something that will heavily influence the
world to come. In this regard, I seek to understand how the meaning of
these representations — some utopian, many others dystopian — is determined,
showing their similarities and differences from an overall perspective,
possibly revealing their derivenness from a common semiotic
and cultural system.
