Abstract:
After traumatic events such as wars and catastrophes, story-telling and fiction rise as a means of catharsis to help a culture metabolize the past. This is the case of stories set in the future, as part of the science fiction genre. In the paper will be examined if it possible to see stories located in the future as a place of trauma elaboration with project-oriented intent. To this extent, the essay will analyse the Japanese comic book (manga) story-arc of Osamu Tezuka’s Mighty Atom (it. Astro Boy) called “The Greatest Robot on Earth” from the early Sixties and Naoki Urasawa’s re-working of the same story-arc in 2004, Pluto.
