Master in Materials Science for Energy applications & using Large scale Facilities

Progetto
MaMaSELF+ is a two-year European Master course in Materials Science, entirely taught in English and leading to the award of a multiple Master degree diploma. MaMaSELF+ is conducted by a consortium of 6 highly recognized European Universities (University of Rennes1 and University of Montpellier in France, University of Turin in Italy, TUM and LMU of Munich, in Germany, Adam Mickiewicz University, in Poland). The Master also developed a strong network with Non-European Universities, new industrial partners, and specifically with associated Large Scale Facilities (LSF). MaMaSELF+ is a unique Master offering the students a high level course in Materials Science with specific additional competencies in the use of LSF. The joint program covers fundamentals of Materials (chemistry and physics of solid state), advanced experimental techniques and specialization in energy related applications (energy conversion, storage and efficiency, nanomaterials, geomaterials, smart materials). An intensive Summer School is dedicated to LSF, i.e. use and applications of neutron and synchrotron radiation. Students will study at 2 or 3 institutions: the first year consists of lectures and laboratory courses at one of the Universities. For the 3rd semester students choose a second University in a different country. The internship/Master thesis in the 4th semester can be conducted at a University of the consortium or at a partner institution: in Japan, in Brazil, in India, in USA, in Russia, as well as at partner LSF (ESRF & ILL, Grenoble; Soleil & LLB, Paris; FRMII, Munich; Elettra, Trieste; XFEL, Hamburg; PSI, Zurich). Neutron and synchrotron radiation represent nowadays well established techniques in fields ranging from nanotechnology and material characterization to structural biology and drug-delivery processes, from cultural heritage studies to medical imaging and radiotherapeutic treatments. This wide number of applications is a major asset of LSF, a scientific and technological area where European Union is standing as a world leader. MaMaSELF+ is a recognized European formation of excellence in this field and exists since 2007. Forming new generations of engineers and researchers specifically educated to the new challenges imposed by our world economy within the next 20 years is fundamental to further develop the existing platforms and networks with research centers and industrials. For this reason, the Mamaself Consortium upgrades its joint program with a reinforced emphasis on energy applications and material characterization, through the inclusion of dedicated courses in the six Universities. Beyond academic excellence students will experience remarkable cultural enrichment through mobility and intense events (Welcome week, Summerschool & status meeting). Admission criteria are Bachelor in Materials Science or related areas (Physics, Chemistry, Geoscience, etc) together with a proficiency level of English. Website: http://www.mamaself.eu
