The Chair “No Fear 4 Europe” (NoFEUr) will explore the topic and role of “fear” in the EU, by examining fear from both inside and outside the EU. NoFEUr will analyse fear in the European integration process from its origins. The aim of the courses, seminars and conferences will be to retrace, from a historical, cultural, social and political point of view, the different, interconnected forms of fear, such as fears generated by the economic crisis or the immigration phenomena, which are often related to other types of fear, such as terrorism or Islamophobia. NoFEUr will fall within the framework of the Department of Culture, Politics and Society (CPS) of the University of Turin (UniTo), and will promote excellence in teaching in European studies focused on particular aspects of European integration by bringing together different perspectives and approaches and focusing on “European fears” (exogenous and endogenous) and other countries’ “fears of Europe”. The Chair also aims to broaden the educational options available to students and promote original research and an innovative approach. Because of its interdisciplinarity, NoFEUr will offer students opportunities at many levels and a new approach to European studies. The Chair will target European and non-EU students of different disciplines. In addition to research and education, NoFEUr will foster the debate on the future of the EU in order to analyse and combat the different fears. NoFEUr will involve many other research and teaching institutions, at the national and international level, as partners, including non-EU universities, think tanks and associations. NoFEUr will be structured as follows: 1) Teaching activities: Training and Intensive Courses (TICs) and Summer Schools (SSs); 2) Dissemination activities: National and International Conferences (NICs), Roundtable debates (RTs), Workshops (Ws). Finally, NoFEUr aims to ensure its results stand the test of time by launching a new scientific e-journal on Europe.
