Abstract:
This paper explores the semiotic implications of digital falsification, with a particular focus on deepfakes. The evolution of human interaction with the "false" has entered a new phase due to digital technologies, particularly Artificial Intelligence (AI) and deep learning. The research explores how deepfakes, especially those related to facial representations, challenge traditional boundaries between truth and falsification. By analyzing the role of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs), the paper examines how AI now produces falsifications that are increasingly indistinguishable from reality, raising profound questions about identity, trust, and the ethical use of digital media. The work offers a semiotic framework for understanding these transformations, emphasizing the importance of rethinking the social and philosophical impact of digital deception in an age where the human face—a primary tool of interpersonal communication—is at the center of these manipulations.
