ART AND EARTH FUTURE CLIMATE AS CREATIVE CONDITION

The way to reimagine the future climate of Earth has often passed through artistic expression. If the visualization of environmental changes can be managed, in a scientific and pedagogical perspective, through the use of diagrams or other visual instruments, this article takes issue with how certain works of art manage a similar feat by playing on the intimate relation of materials and meanings which, within a situated environment, contribute to making the climate a felt experience, and not only a scientific reconstruction. This article looks specifically at the case of land art and at Robert Smithson’s Spiral Jetty (1970), in order to determine how our sense of future things can be shaped by artistic objects, insofar as they convey the undergoing of climatic phenomena.
