Transnational Youth Forum 2022: Climate Change, Global Concerns and impact on the Rights of the Future Generations
Progetto The project, Transnational Youth Forum 2022: Climate Change, Global Concerns and impact on the rights of the Future Generations, has as main aim to bring together young participants from different European countries in order to get into interaction, discuss and exchange ideas between them and the policy makers highlighting the importance of climate change and the impact that it has on human rights. Also, through their research and roundtables the young participants will prepare national reports and a common policy recommendation that will be presented at the final Forum to be held in Cyprus and disseminated at the end of the project.
Context and background: Being aware of the importance of agreements related to Climate change that have been signed by the member states and particularly the Kyoto Protocol, the Copenhagen Agreement and the Paris Agreement, there is an urgent need in understanding how climate change is affecting human rights and the rights of the future generations.
Acknowledging the vital role of youth in decision-making, it is imperative to involve them in all stages of the policy process.
This project has an objective to provide them the opportunity to get into dialogue with decision makers and stakeholders so that to have their voices heard and suggest innovative long lasting solutions on the topic.
Structure and vision: This project on Climate change and human rights, aims to establish a long- term network for communication and discussion between young people and experts on the field so that to identify areas that needs to be reformed or suggesting new innovative plans.
Objectives:
• Empower young participants to conduct research, discuss with stakeholders and significally contribute in policy decision making process
• Identify and understand the gaps in national and transnational level and try to find long-term solutions for ensuring the protection of human rights for the current and future generations and eliminate the impact of climate change on people’s lives.
• Promote the active social participation of young people through dialogue with policy makers and stakeholders specialized on the field.
Main activities:
• National roundtables x2 organized by the academics and youth with the involvement and participation of policy makers
• Creation of an online platform connecting young participants from different countries
• Conduct of research
• Preparation of a Country report with best practices and contributing in finalizing the Joint Policy Recommendation document
• Transnational Youth Forum 2022 to be held in Nicosia, Cyprus
• Dissemination of the outcomes of the national reports and Joint Recommendation policy document
• Actions and activities to be taken at the end of the project ensuring its sustainability after its completion
Work approach: Acknowledging the important role of young people in influencing younger people and their willingness of getting involved in social actions, the young participants of the project will be in constant collaboration and communication with their academics and teachers who will provide them will all necessary tools and assist them in all the stages of the project i.e in conducting their research and organizing the roundtables and getting prepared for the final Forum in Cyprus.
The consortium will be cooperating closely with the coordinators of the project and particularly with the HFC's R&D department in order to support them on their research, communication and the preparations for the final Forum. Indeed, the young participants are highly encouraged to take initiatives for organizing more activities not only during but also at the end of the project for further promotion of the project’s impact.
