Abstract:
Technology and Surroundings : Between Heidegger and Vattimo · The essay offers a comparison between Heidegger and Vattimo on the concept of technology. While Heidegger, especially since the 1950s places technology, as Gestell, within the destinal history of being, and tries to give it a non-instrumental and non-anthropological understanding, Vattimo, although he shares some elements of the Heideggerian vision, insists more on the anthropological factor, which makes technology dependent on the decisions of human being and his doing, as can be seen in particular in his first work, Il concetto di fare in Aristotele, and in the essay echoing Heidegger’s, La questione della tecnica oggi. This is about the recovery of the instrumental dimension of technology, which carries with it a symbolic (i.e. also hermeneutic) value (as already happens in Sein und Zeit), more in line with certain developments in contemporary philosophy (Simondon, Stiegler) and more compatible with other statements of Heidegger himself, for example in the essays Das Ding and Bauen Wohnen Denken.
