Abstract:
In an era marked by increasing social, cultural, and linguistic complexity, this paper explores the strategic role of plurilingualism and intercomprehension in upper secondary education, with a particular focus on technical and vocational institutes. Drawing on a theoretical framework that integrates epistemologies of complexity, language education pedagogy, and European language policy, the study highlights how intercomprehension between related languages can serve as an effective didactic resource to foster inclusion, metalinguistic awareness, and the activation of students’ linguistic repertoires. The paper presents practical experiences, including the PLUSSI project, which illustrate the transformative potential of pluralistic approaches within school settings. It ultimately aims to offer critical insights and operational guidelines for a more flexible, democratic, and future-oriented language education in line with the challenges of the 21st century.
