MALDIBANK’s objective is to develop a multi-domain open MALDI-TOF MS bank for identification of microorganisms based on a broad multi-taxon/multi-environment MALDI-TOF MS databank supported by a robust data infrastructure and offering analysis service allowing 1) to upload spectra and get accurate and fast identifications of microorganisms and 2) to perform epidemiological surveillance and characterization of microbes through innovative AI algorithms. Our ambition is that MALDIBANK becomes the international benchmark for MALDI-TOF MS users. The project is designed to deliver the needed training skills to the RIs staff that will enable the incorporation of MALDIBANK functionalities on their daily working routines. Microbial culture collections (CCs) will share their MALDI-TOF MS spectra and associated data to build comprehensive and diverse microbial MALDI-TOF MS spectra resource covering a wide range of microbial taxa (e.g. pathogenic, food, environmental bacteria, cyanobacteria, fungi, including yeasts, and microalgae). Additional selective spectra of poorly represented microorganisms, in some cases involving the improvement of currently existing acquisition protocols that may start from the sample preparation.
